The 50th Anniversary Reunion of Building 58

1958 was a significant year for Ceremonial Guard Company, as it changed its quarters from the Barracks and marched down 8th Street to its new home at Building #58 in the Naval Gun Factory. A 50th Reunion was planned to celebrate this anniversary at the Marine Corps Base at Quantico, Virginia, to include attending the Birthday Ball on the 233rd Anniversary of the Marine Corps. A great amount of planning the details of financing and making arrangements for housing, busses, meals, and events was masterfully handled by John Reim, the Silent Drill Team rifle inspector in 1961. All hands in attendance (including several former MCI Marines) had a wonderful time renewing acquaintances and participating in the events, as will be seen below.

Group picture with the Quantico Base Commander, Col. Charles Dallachie

In addition to posing for our group picture, Col. Dallachie visited us at our hospitality room and we visited him at the Officer's Club. He is a special Marine! When the terrorists bombed the Marine Barracks, Beirut, Lebanon, 23 October 1983, killing 241 American troops, Col. Dallachie (then a 1st Lt.) was inside the barracks. He suffered massive injuries and was administered his Last Rights. Miraculously, after being hospitalized for about one year, he fully recovered. Today, outwardly, he looks terrific. Again, he is a special Marine! You can find more on his background by clicking here.
