Silent Drill Platoon from 1970 -1972 [3rd Squad Leader, and Inspection Team]. The Inspection Team was: from L to R Sgt. Garcia, Sgt. M. Pfeiff, Sgt. R. Goodwin, and Sgt. J. Marley. The other photos are of the 1972 SDP practicing with Guard Co. and MCI Co. at the main barracks, a formal group photo of the 1972 SDP, and the 1972 SDP in a 'less formal pose' at Lutze Park.

Silent Drill Team at 8th and I, MB, 1971, practicing for Gen. Lewis Walt's retirement.

The above photos are of the Silent Drill Team in 1970-71. There wasn't a formal Silent Drill Team selection and training process that exists today back then. New candidates were chosen from Marines in Guard Company and trained at Building 58 (during the week and on the weekend, as a couple of photos depict). We'd drill 'em in the squadbay, and on the weekend march them all over the Washington Navy Yard.

One photo shows the drill team practicing for General Lewis Walt's retirement ceremony at the main barracks. The new Dress Blue overcoat had just been issued. This photo may be the first time the Dress Blue overcoat, replacing the green overcoat for ceremonial wear at the barracks, was worn. The ceremony ended up being held inside due to inclement weather.

One photo of the Drill Team (on-the-road) in Springfield, Mass shows us getting ready to board the bus. SSgt Isabell is standing at attention while the remainder of the group is rather relaxed. The remaining photos are of the Drill Team at Parris Island in 1971, performing various activities.

The above six photos are of the Silent Drill Team in 1972. Specifically, the Drill Team [with new drillers] preparing to leave Bldg. 58 in Feb 1972 headed to the Naval Training Center, Orlando Florida; and training at the NTC. The other general photos are of Drill Team practicing and preparing for a Friday night parade.

The following photos are from 1971 depicting various training and ceremonial activities. The caption under the photo describes what is going on.
